"‘So' is one of the big beasts of global pop." 8/10, Uncut
Following the recent release of the critically-acclaimed reissues of ‘So' and a series of one-off North American shows, Peter Gabriel is set to bring the ‘Back To Front' tour to the Europe. The show at Kombank Arena will feature the original ‘So' live band and span Gabriel's illustrious career, including a performance of ‘So' in its entirety.
Released in 1986, ‘So' became one of the defining albums of the era and landed an international array of multi-Platinum certifications (in the US alone, it has sold over 5 million copies). Launched with the huge hit single and groundbreaking music video ‘Sledgehammer', which remains MTV's most played video of all time, ‘So' also contains many of Gabriel's biggest hits and most loved songs including ‘In Your Eyes' which famously featured in Cameron Crowe's movie ‘Say Anything', the haunting duet ‘Don't Give Up', which was performed with Kate Bush, and Big Time. The album also includes contributions from notable names including Lori Anderson, Stewart Copeland, Daniel Lanois, Jim Kerr, Bill Laswell and Nile Rodgers.
Describing the time on his website Gabriel notes:
"I think when we played the album back we knew it was good. It wasn't like I was an obscure artist; I'd had hits with Shock The Monkey, Games Without Frontiers and Solsbury Hill but after each of them I'd purposefully retreated partially back into the shadows. With 'So' this was the end of the idea of me being a sort of cult artist at the fringes of the mainstream, especially in America. There wasn't an option to go and hide in the shadows any more."
'So' 25th anniversary edition is the opportunity to explore how the album was made, the stories behind the songs, the evolution of each track and the outstanding live performance of the 'So' tour. It is on sale now from www.petergabriel.com
"Time leaves an indelible stamp on everything. When you revisit your past you can no longer live inside it, but you can walk around it, open up old memories and occasionally catch the scent of some place in which you lived". Peter Gabriel

The ‘Back To Front' tour, which began in the US earlier this year amassed stunning reviews along the way, saw Gabriel reunited with the original ‘So' touring band: bass wizard Tony Levin, guitarist David Rhodes, keyboardist David Sancious and drummer Manu Katche.
"It felt strange and very familiar at the same time when we started," he said. "It is strange the way relationships just carry on exactly the same way they were really, except maybe you hope you've mellowed and are a tiny bit wiser for having lived longer. But I wouldn't put a lot of money on it."
